Week 1 Recap

Pounds Lost This Week: 6.6 lbs

Exercise: I am super proud of myself! I exercised every single day this week! I only did the crunches and Bowflex 2 days, but I did cardio every day. Here are the totals:

Walked - 206 minutes
Ran - 64 minutes

Eating: Initially I didn't want to go over 1200 calories per day. Then, MyFitnessPal was yelling at me and telling me that I wasn't eating enough calories and that my body was going to go into starvation mode. Yadda yadda yadda. So, I stayed between 1100-1500 every day this week.

Weak Moments: We hung out with family last night and I limited snacking and had a small portion of spaghetti for dinner w/ a small piece of bread. Dessert was French Apple pie (1 piece was 430 calories), so I brought a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich (150 calories) for myself. :)

Cravings: I didn't have any craving this week! :)

Next Week's Goals: I know that most of the weight lost this past week was more than likely water weight, so my goal is to lose 3 pounds this coming week. I also really need to find the time for strength training.

I know that there isn't much of a noticeable difference yet, but I'm going to end these posts with a side by side picture of the start and the current week.

Happy FRIDAY

I am loving today! We had parent teacher conferences at the school that I work at last night and this morning, so come 10:45am this morning, I started my weekend!

At 1:40, the mail lady dropped off two packages for me. I knew what they were and was super stoked! I slept in this morning and planned on working out after work HOPING that these items would come and they did!  This is what I got:

BBolder.com - $15
Bolder Band - I have used the regular elastic bands before, but they always either felt like they were going to slip out of place or they did. I ran across these bands online and ordered one. I used it today when I walked/ran for 60 minutes on the treadmill. It NEVER slipped. It stayed in place and was super comfortable. It even soaked up the sweat by my hairline. I didn't have to wipe my face on and off for the entire workout. It was drenched when I took it off, but luckily I can just throw it in the washer! I bought this on BBolder.com and just ordered 3 more tonight since I loved it so much! Here is a coupon code that I saw on Facebook: 10FB10 for 10% off in case you are interested in purchasing one for yourself!

Rakuten - $63
Polar FT4 HRM - Someone suggested that I get a heart rate monitor to give me more accurate information for my workouts. I also like it because I will have correct information when we take the dogs for a walk. I'm going to connect it to Endomondo.com this weekend. I used it during my hour workout today and it showed that I burned 39 more calories than the treadmill showed. I found this one cheapest on Rakuten.com for $63.

I will check in on Sunday and update on how the week went for me! Have a great Saturday, everyone!

Breast Cancer, Ain't Nobody Got Time For That

4.75
Number of miles you need you run
each week to lower your risk of
dying from breast cancer by 42 percent.
Prefer slow and steady to pounding
the pavement? Walking a brisk seven
miles a week does the trick, too.

I read this today in Fitness Magazine. I was shocked by how much they say it lowers your risk of dying from breast cancer. I wonder if that is true. What if it is just in your genes? Will running still lower the odds?

Let's jump back to 2009. After being married for nearly 3 years, my sister, Kristy, and her husband were about to start trying to expand their family when her husband discovered a lump in her breast. She was 30 at the time. She was/is the STRONGEST woman I know. She faught that battle like it was NOTHING. Simply amazing.

Breast cancer is very common in my family. Both grandmas and some of my aunts have had breast cancer prior to Kristy's diagnosis. You better believe that once I hit 30, my sister HOUNDED me to get a mammogram done. I am proud to say that I have had two so far. I get them done yearly now. If I didn't, my sister would harass me every single day until I got it done. As much as they suck, I would rather that than be scolded by her. She scares me. haha

Almost 5 years later and she is as happy as can be with a super adorable almost 7 month old!

Genetics or not, if I can decrease my odds of getting breast cancer, then I will do it. Thankfully I didn't have to change my workout plans. My weekly goals already consist of that much running/walking!

The Start

Today starts my new weight loss challenge. I started late last month and was basically maintaining my weight after I lost some water weight. I got discouraged and took a break for a week. Now I am back at it and just starting fresh. My goals this time around are to get at least 30 minutes of cardio done in the morning and then do strength exercises on the Bowflex and crunches at night. I also want to eat NO MORE than 1200 calories a day. I want to lose about 3 pounds a week.

Today I started the C25K program for the 2nd time. I tried it years ago and never made it past week 3 due to my knees. I hope this time around I am able to make it to the end. I can't say that at this moment I actually want to run a 5K. It would be nice to be able to do it though. You never know...I may change my mind.

I may post some updates throughout the week, but I definitely will be posting a picture along with information on how the previous week went. You'll see those every Sunday.

Have a splendid Sunday and a wonderful week, ladies!
